A Message from Mr. Merrill

Mr. Merrill imageHello everyone,

August is usually the time we think about gearing up for a new school year and getting back to a routine. Many of you are in the throes of shopping for school supplies and prepping your children, and yourselves, for the onslaught of back-to-school and seasonal activities. I remember those days with my girls. They were exciting, but hectic.

Even if you're not in back-to-school mode, this time of year can be draining. We're in the seventh-inning stretch on the calendar, so to speak, and the holiday season is right around the corner. Plus, we know you're giving it your all here at work, too.

That's why this couldn't be a more perfect time to take a collective deep breath and recognize August as Well-being Month. At Cook Children’s, we’ve been named one of the 2024 Healthiest Employers because of our proactive approach to supporting well-being. So we invite you all to take some time to focus on yourself.

We have the great privilege of working at a very special place where we strive to uphold Our Promise to do “everything for the child.”

To do this, we must first take care of ourselves so we in turn can care for others. Taking care of ourselves allows us to be better at everything we do, at work and at home. The small things add up and can make a big difference.

Best Places ....Please take the time you need to take care of yourself. For me, those moments where I can enjoy the creative outlet of songwriting, the opportunity to go outdoors and ride my bike or quiet times of reflection and practicing my faith mean the world to me. They give me a chance to recharge my batteries to be present at work and with my family.

Your total health and quality of life are deeply personal, and you’re the expert on what matters most. We encourage you to think about Well-being Month in terms of your unique needs and goals.

Throughout the month, we have an exciting range of classes, events, and activities for you to enjoy and benefit from. To ensure you don’t miss out on any of these opportunities, we encourage you to stay tuned in to our internal communication channels including the new CookNet.

The leadership team at Cook Children’s takes your well-being very seriously. You’ve shared with us on recent surveys, leader roundings and in town halls the things that are important to you and we continue to listen to improve your work experience by adding benefits, resources, and programs to support you and your family’s well-being.

Just like we look after our patients and their families, let’s make sure we look out for each other as well. We all experience stress and challenges, but you don't have to go through it alone. Reach out to a friend, family member, colleague or use some of the resources available to you here at Cook Children’s.

Remember, a healthy you is a better you, both personally and professionally. Let's all make well-being a priority this August and every month.
