Amanda Leary, RN

Amanda (Mandi) is a true asset to the Cook Children’s Health Plan-STAR Kids Care Management team. As a part of the Medically Dependent Children Program team, Mandi is always stepping up to help others on the team while ensuring her members are provided the most comprehensive care. When her member families request information from her, she always responds to them in a timely manner with quality resources to allow them to better navigate the health care system. Mandi encourages her members to take an active part in the care coordination process when applicable, making sure their voices are heard. The communication she maintains with her members and their families is calming, and she is able to obtain required information with such ease while comforting our medically complex members. Over time, Mandi has been able to teach her members and families to be their own advocate, which is one of our primary goals. Mandi’s charting and auditing is always among the best on the team. She provides a detailed picture of what her role is in coordinating care for her members. This makes it much easier when another Service Coordinator needs to pick up where she left off because of her attention to detail. Mandi understands the importance of providing optimal coverage for our Health Plan members, so much so that she continually reaches out to request additional members when her time allows.

As new employees come on board, Mandi takes them under her wing after their initial training and provides continuous outreach as needed to confirm they are thriving as a service coordinator. When team members request resources, Mandi is one of the first to provide assistance as well as a list of endless contacts she has gathered over time. Her former role as Paroxysmal Nocturnal Dyspnea reviewer is priceless in determining if our members are getting the nursing services they require. Mandi has participated on the STAR Kids Action Committee where she was instrumental in implementing new processes, which have led to a greater efficiency while complying with regulations. Mandi’s generosity, compassion, and kind-heartedness epitomizes the kind of team member she is.
