Building Our Future: Stay Flexible and Friendly

Just like a child getting a "big kid" bed, our Main Campus is having a growth spurt! Thank you for your continued patience and for looking out for one another as we build this exciting future for our patient families and our community. During this time of change, let’s be sure to live by our Cook Children’s values of kindness and generosity.

Here are five ways we can sprinkle some extra kindness around campus while navigating West Tower construction and new walking and driving routes:

Practice patience: When you’re behind the wheel or waiting at a crosswalk, be the first to give a friendly wave or a "go ahead" nod. Yield to other drivers and let someone merge.
Share the Sidewalk: Walking paths may be narrower and busier than usual. Make room for parents with strollers and folks using wheelchairs. Offer a “Hi” or high-five to colleagues as you pass by.
Connect with Teammates: Changes to parking and longer walks can affect everyone’s energy. Acknowledge the effort we’re all making to get to work on time, and extend a word of encouragement during busy shifts.
Offer Directions: Families and new team members may feel overwhelmed by change and detours. If you see someone who looks lost or confused, a simple, "Are you looking for the Medical Center? I can show you the best way," can make them feel welcome.
Keep Your Cool: Remember that construction is a temporary "growing pain" for much-needed improvements. When problems happen, respond with calm and a positive attitude.

And don't forget our value of safety. To help everyone reach their destination safely and on time, please follow these guidelines while navigating our construction zones. An important reminder, please keep your eyes up and aware when walking on campus. Don't be glued to your phone; please be present as you are navigating the campus.
