Cook Children's Holiday Extravaganza Canceled

Important UPdate

Dec. 9, 2022

Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, this year’s Holiday Extravaganza event has been canceled.

Every effort was made to hold this event, but the updated weather forecast for tomorrow shows persistent rain and a strong chance for heavy thunderstorms into the evening. With your safety and the overall experience in mind, the decision was made to cancel the event.

We know our patients are excited to see our tree lighting. While we won’t be holding a ceremony this year, we plan to turn the lights on in the upcoming week.

The Holiday Extravaganza requires special zoning permits from the city, making it impossible to reschedule our fireworks show in time for Christmas.

We want to thank everyone involved in the planning and participation of this event.

We know this is a disappointment, but we hope you will still find moments for magic this holiday season.

211205-HolidayExtravaganzaRushEdits-1040We are excited to announce that this year’s Holiday Extravaganza and Fireworks Show will be in person. Our annual event will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, in front of the medical center. We invite all Cook Children’s employees and their families to join us for a fun evening of festivities including Santa visit, performances, holiday treats, and the lighting of the Christmas tree.

Important Note: For the safety of our patient families, this year’s entire event will take place outside. Employees that are not currently on shift will not be allowed into the medical center for any reason. There will be restrooms, snacks and beverages (available for purchase) all made available at the outdoor event. This is in accordance with our current Visitation Policy.

Schedule of Events:

3-5 p.m.: Santa visit and pictures in the South Pole (south lawn.) Those who would like to visit with Santa are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy for our patients. The greatest need this year is for infant toys. This is greatly appreciated by our patients and Child Life staff. Line closes at 4:45pm

3-6 p.m.:  Outdoor games, activities, and refreshments. Join Child Life, Food and Nutrition, Build a Bear, and Mirror Mirror Hair and Nail Salon for games and activities! Some items are available for purchase (cash and card accepted)

5 p.m.:  Live Stage performances

Shortly after 6 p.m. – Tree Lighting and Fireworks Show

Event Parking: If you are coming to the event please park in the new employee garage on the corner of Terrell and 8th, regardless of where your assigned parking is. This will allow the other garages to remain open and easily accessible for our patients and on duty employees.

We look forward to seeing you all on December 10th! As a reminder, there will be no access into the medical center for any reason so please plan accordingly to be outside for the duration of the event.
