Flu Shots and On-Campus Clinics Coming Soon
Flu shots are coming soon to Cook Children’s, and employees are asked to complete their consent forms electronically by Friday, Sept. 9.
Whether you receive your flu shot in your department or at one of our flu shot clinics this fall, the consent form must be completed first. Consent forms in English are available through Lawson by following these steps:
- Scroll down on the left navigation bar and click on “Employee Self Service”
- Then click “Human Resources”
- Then click “Occ Health Portal”
- Then click on “Forms” at the top of the page and click on “Influenza Vaccine Consent” to complete your form
Karen Mahoney, manager of Occupational Health, said the distribution of doses will start with highest-risk areas such as Hematology/Oncology, the Emergency Department, PICU and NICU, and then to the rest of the medical center and to physician offices in the network.
Consent forms in Spanish will be available on paper at our eight on-site flu shot fairs, which begin Sept. 13. “We’ll have enough vaccine for everybody,” Karen said.
Employees may get their flu shots at another location – primary care physician or pharmacy for instance – and send proof to Occupational Health for their records. The goal? Everyone immunized by Nov. 1.
The flu is a viral infection of the respiratory tract that can cause fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, cough and sore throat, runny nose, tiredness and other symptoms. In the United States, flu season is from October to May.
“It’s the best protection we have against the strains of the flu that are currently circulating,” Karen said. “If we can get our shots every year and prevent illness, that’s a great thing for our employees and our patients.”
