Internal Disaster Update: IV Solution Supply
We are lifting the Internal Disaster that was in place due to IV solution supply shortages. Thank you for your continued fluid conservation work. Your efforts, including reducing fluid volumes during dispensing, coordinating efficient bag and line changes, and considering alternative treatment options, have had a substantial positive impact on our overall fluid supply.
Thank you again for your valuable contributions.
Although the Baxter facility continues its cleanup work in order to ramp up to full capacity, we have been fortunate to maintain a sufficient supply and are comfortable enough with current allocations to lift some of our conservation strategies.
• Line changes will revert back to policy PS 572 - Intravenous (IV) Access and Line Maintenance (see pages 8-9 for chart)
• Pharmacy compounded infusions will be dated with their original expiration of 48 hours (instead of 96 hours)
• Manufacturer premixed infusions will be dated with their original expiration of 96 hours (instead of 7 days)
Nursing: please wait until the next appropriate line change/bag expiration to request a new fluid/drip. We are hoping to avoid an immediate influx of new bag requests.
Thank you for your dedication to providing the highest quality care to our patients and families.
