Medical Laboratory Professionals Week
Join us in celebrating Medical Laboratory Professionals Week April 23-29!

By the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Team
Did you know that an estimated 70% of medical decisions are based on results provided by the laboratory? The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cook Children’s offers a broad range of diagnostic testing in pathology, clinical laboratory, and transfusion services. Our talented team is composed of 146 laboratory professionals and six pathologists, with educational backgrounds ranging from the certification level to Ph.D. and M.D., and covers a variety of roles – including phlebotomists, medical laboratory scientists, histology technicians, clinical consultants, and administrative professionals.
The laboratory at Cook Children’s is accredited by the College of American Pathologists and meets the highest standards for accuracy and quality of service. In 2022, laboratory staff collected 77,000 specimens, issued 14,000 blood products, and processed over 1.39 million billable tests. We take great pride in collaborating with caregivers to provide the best possible outcomes for our patients and are happy to provide consultations with pathologists, clinical Ph.Ds, or laboratory personnel at any time.
Join us as we celebrate these laboratory professionals, who protect our future by skillfully adapting to meet today’s evolving patient care and public health challenges with resilience, innovation, and expertise – and thank you for partnering with us to connect the dots!
