Overcoming Adversity: Cook Children's Employee Coaches Dallas Cowboys Wheelchair Football Team

America's Team kicks off the 2022 NFL Season this week on Sunday Night Football, but another local Dallas Cowboys team has been holding court for a few weeks now.

Based out of Irving, Texas, the Dallas Cowboys Wheelchair Football Team is sponsored by the NFL, RISE Adaptive Sports and Bob Woodruff Foundation. The 12-man squad competes in the USA Wheelchair Football League against other NFL wheelchair teams across the country and on the coaching staff is Danny Peltier, practice manager for Cook Children’s Outpatient Psychiatry.

“It is so great and it’s a mindset for a lot of us. We all want to compete and once you’re in a wheelchair, you kind of lose that sense of being able to have that competitive side,” Danny said. “Having the opportunity to get out there and compete and having guys at elite levels as we have now is eye-opening and rebuilds your confidence in your disability.”
