Peak Performer: Amber Delval
Clinical Coordinator I, RN, Infusion Center- Medical Center
Amber was a Peak Performer recipient for the fourth quarter of 2021 (July-September). Below is her nomination letter.
The H/O clinic has been without a manager for the past 6 months. Amber has served as the coordinator for infusion for the past several years. When our manager left Amber stepped in to assist with the daily functioning of the clinic. Over time, she took on more and more responsibility including: staffing for clinic/infusion/Grapevine, interviewing/hiring new employees, and PACE reviews, etc. While filling in and taking on management responsibilities, Amber also has been charge nurse in infusion as they have been short staffed. Amber goes above and beyond because while she has her own responsibilities, she is always willing to step up and help out her staff. She has even driven to the Grapevine clinic to staff as the 3rd nurse for procedures.
Amber is a natural problem solver. Her mind is constantly in "how can we fix this" mode. Amber brainstorms with the team to see what changes we can make for the clinic process to work better. There was a patient who came for an infusion appointment and due to some of his medical issues he was not very cooperative. In fact, he laid on the concrete outside of the building and was agitated with his mom. Amber, knowing how situations with this patient can be, laid on the concrete next to him. She talked to him, calmed him down, and after a very long time was able to get him to come in the building for his appointment. Amber then created a plan for when he came to his next appointment to ensure he and mom could get to the appointment without issue.
