Peak Performer: Adrian Turner

Adrian is an outstanding Pharmacist who goes above and beyond for her patients and their families. She is very knowledgeable and resourceful, especially when working with Neurology. I was working with her one day and received a call about a patient on a different unit who was very ill and on a medication trial. I was informed that the medication on the IV pump was about to run out and that we had no more in stock. This medication must be weaned otherwise the patient can go into serious withdrawal. Adrian, having helped with many of these trials before understood the seriousness of the situation. She immediately started to help even though she was not assigned this patient that day. She reached out to her colleagues to notify them of the situation and to see if it had been ordered or where it was in the shipping process. Adrian found that it would take some time for the medication to arrive and get to the patient, so she began to work on a way to dilute down the concentration we had available. She was successful and due to her diligence and good work ethic, the patient suffered no ill effects. 

​Adrian is very detail-oriented when it comes to lab follow-up in regards to medications the patient may be taking and how it can affect their organs. She advocates for close monitoring and drug levels if she sees they have not been collected, and Adrian will contact the provider to discuss any concerns. Adrian also reviews each patient's medication list to make sure they are on therapeutic doses and to see if PRN medication they may not need can be stopped such as narcotics. On many occasions, she will spend extra time with nurses and families to educate them about medications and administration. Adrian also spends time on medication calendars for the home that will be easily understood by the family. Lastly, She will speak with the family to find out their individual needs, review the calendar with them and tweak it until it fits their needs best.​ Adrian’s commitment to providing excellent quality care makes her a Peak Performer!
