Peak Performer: Jessica Russell
child life specialist, Child Life
Jessica was a Peak Performer recipient for the second quarter of 2022 (January-March). Below is her nomination letter.
Jessica is an exceptional team member and child life specialist. In the past few months, our outpatient child life team was unexpectedly stretched and faced an ever-high census. We had open positions creating gaps in child life services and Jessica went above and beyond to ensure that these uncovered clinics were prioritized and the needs of their patients met. She regularly organized their census, made herself available for unexpected consults, and was a compassionate, reliable asset when we reached out for coverage support and help. Her graceful communication, keen assessment and unwavering patient focus are just some of things that make her a Peak Performer and leader.
Part of Jessica's job is to be the child life specialist for Nephrology Clinic, Dialysis and Renal Transplant. Over the holidays and past few months, she demonstrated exemplary balance, patience and compassion as she navigated the needs of her patient populations while creating availability in her schedule for other clinics short-staffed. We were calling her daily for help in procedures and acute experiences for patients in these clinics and she always made space to show up and provide support.
As remarkable as her team focus is, her time management is equally exceptional. While remaining an indelible team player, Jessica provided a holiday season that was full of play, family-centered activities and joy for her chronic patients. Her prioritization skills and reliability have been unmatched these past few months and we are grateful to have her on our team and serving our patients at Cook Children's.
