Peak Performer: Kalie Skerik, NP
nurse practitioner, APP Primary Care Provider Trophy Club
Kalie was a Peak Performer recipient for the third quarter of 2022 (April-June). Below is her nomination letter.
As a Cook Children’s employee, I have the pleasure of being able to see Kalie at the primary care office in Trophy Club for both of my children's care. With every appointment I am beyond impressed with our experience and the care she provides. She exemplifies and embodies the Cook Culture and is an amazing representation of what we stand for. Any parent or caregiver that has an appointment with her should know this, and how lucky they are to have her care for their child. Kalie’s kindness, warmth, and genuine care for the patient and family are felt from the moment she walks through the door. I have never seen her without a smile on her face, even underneath a mask. When you think of Cook Children's, you think of a person like Kalie. What Kalie excels at is listening. I have never felt rushed during an appointment or left feeling unheard. She listens to all my concerns as a mom, no matter how small they may seem, and she never makes me feel embarrassed for asking questions that I may think are irrelevant or I should know the answer to as a mom. She patiently sits and actively listens until I'm through, offers her expert medical advice, and asks if I'm okay with whatever treatment plan, prescription, or follow up she recommends. Very rarely do I feel like a provider confirms with a parent if they are onboard and okay with what they are recommending. It means a lot to me that she wants parents to play an active role in their child's well-being. She treats the whole family, not just the patient. Which is what we stand for at Cook Children's.
One of the many amazing things Kalie has done for the team at Cook Children’s Trophy Club is research and develop a process for cholesterol screening in our office. She reviewed the AAP’s guidelines as well as other tools and put a process in place for preventive screening of our patient population at annual well appointments. Kalie has also started the Party Planning Committee, a group of our teammates at the clinic that plan birthday, holiday and special events to help make everyone feel more included and build moral.
