Peak Performer: Megan Gibbs
pediatric oncology coordinator, Hematology/Oncology
Megan was a Peak Performer recipient for the fourth quarter of 2022 (July-September). Below is her nomination letter.
Since I came to the Hematology/Oncology clinic, I have seen Megan step up no questions asked to fill a need when she sees one time and time again. One day I was very overwhelmed by my workload when a patient of mine called needing help. This patient needed an urgent second opinion referral coordinated before receiving surgery and chemotherapy in two days. Without even asking, Megan took the initiative to put together the entire referral and care for my patient's needs, even though this process takes a lot of time and intentionality. She looked out for the safety of my patient while also serving her team cheerfully.
In Oncology, we frequently have patients that come into the office and trigger sepsis alerts or even med alerts. When I was new to clinic, I had a patient one day that required a sepsis alert. I had not done one since coming to clinic and felt lost in how to help it run smoothly as I noticed sepsis alerts look a lot different on the outpatient side of things. Megan was right there when I needed her most. She came to help me and empowered me to care well for my patient. She knew exactly what needed to be done to provide quality care and keep the patient safe. She puts 110% into everything she does, and is a wonderful representation of Cook Children's core values.
