Peak Performer: Melissia Hampton
laboratory education specialist, Talent Management/Organizational and Professional Development
Melissia was a Peak Performer recipient for the fourth quarter of 2022 (July-September). Below is her nomination letter.
I’ve heard it said that true kindness lies within the act of giving without the expectation of something in return. A spirit of teamwork and collaboration is certainly one that is consistently demonstrated by Melissia. When a department scheduled education for lab labelling, three instructors were also scheduled to be present to train super-users. A perfect storm occurred which resulted in instructors being unable to attend as scheduled and staff were already present for the one hour class. Melissia quickly agreed to step in and was the only instructor until a partner from the lab was available to help. This was beyond her job responsibilities and she supported the event with a positive attitude while extending grace to those who could not attend.
Melissia is a wonderful support to the Point of Care Testing (POCT) department. Clinical staff are required to validate competency annually and that department is a small group with only four employees. There has been turnover within the department this year as well. Melissia frequently helped with competency validations at multiple events, even if it was simply to direct traffic and maintain spacing and infection control measures when pandemic precautions were in place. Providing this assistance took hours from her busy schedule, but again, she was happy to help. I appreciate how Melissia is always willing to serve others and that she values opportunities to collaborate to get the job done and support safe care of the patients we serve.
