Prosper News Update (Oct. 16, 2025)

Good afternoon Prosper family,

Welcome to fall! We have lots of activities coming this way in this month! See below for our Halloween fun! We continue to see increase in census and more activity in the hospital. Please make sure that your Joint Commission checklists are done each shift and if you see something on the list, please say something so that we can fix it before a surveyor arrives. Help us keep the hospital clean and safe for everyone.

In the News: NICU at Cook Children's - Prosper

Cook Children’s Medical Center – Prosper President Kevin Greene and Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse Manager Tiffany Pullom spoke with Briseida Holguin from CBS News Texas about our new, state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) built to meet the urgent needs of our rapidly growing community.

“There has been so much excitement, passion and commitment to excellence surrounding opening up this NICU,” said Pullom.

🎃 This is Cook Children's Halloween: Time to Start Planning!

The spooky season is almost here, and it's time to start preparing for our Prosper Halloween celebration at Cook Children's! We know you're busy, but please take a moment to start planning your costumes (individual and group) and brainstorming those amazing pumpkin decorations. We're looking forward to seeing what spectacular ideas you come up with to bring a smile to our patient's faces!

Costume Contest

Halloween costumes can be worn on all shifts from Oct. 28 - 31 and must follow dress code (no hats, shorts, masks and no gore or clowns.) 

The winning categories are : individual most creative costume, individual funniest costume, best small group (up to 5 people,) and best large group (up to 12 people.) Please download and fill out this registration form with your group or individual photo. Email it to ProsperAdminLeadership@cookchildrens.org by midnight on Oct. 31. Winners will be announced the following week.

Pumpkin Contest

Decorated pumpkins will be due by Oct. 24. Patients and families will vote on 1st, 2nd and 3rd place! Please download and fill out the registration form here. Email the form to ProsperAdminLeadership@cookchildrens.org.

Watch Party: Halloween Hoopla

Join us to watch a livestream of the Halloween Hoopla in classrooms 1621/1622 at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31. Some trick-or-treat goodies will be provided!

Patient Halloween Event

Teams and departments are invited to participate in celebrating Halloween with our patients with a trick-or-treat and craft event in the Atrium. Please see details and guidelines below. PPE: Small Steps, Big Protection

Every day each of us makes countless choices that impact patient safety. One of the most powerful choices we can make is also one of the simplest – wearing the right Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Why it Matters

PPE isn’t just a box we check, it’s our shield. It protects us from harmful germs and prevents us from carrying infections from one patient to another. The extra seconds it takes to put on a gown or mask can mean the difference between stopping an infection in its tracks or allowing it to spread.

Think of PPE as a Team Sport

When you put on your gloves, gown, mask, or eye protection, you’re not just protecting yourself, you are protecting your patients, your coworkers, and even your family at home. Every time you use PPE correctly, you’re showing your commitment to our team and to every person who walks through our doors.

No Shortcuts

It can be tempting to skip PPE for a “quick task,” but germs don’t take shortcuts – and neither should we. Consistency is what keeps us safe. Properly donning and doffing PPE every single time is what makes the difference.

Donations for Our Community

Cook Children's - Prosper and the Prosper UCC are collecting items to support LovePACS to serve children in need in Prosper, Celina and Gunter. In Week 3 (Oct. 11 - 17), we will accept granola bars and snacks. Thank you for contributing to this great local cause! For Week 4, we will focus on ramen noodles and/or microwave popcorn.

Raffle Ticket Fundraiser

The Facilities team is hosting a raffle ticket fundraiser to benefit Spiritual Care. Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. See details below.

Lab Milestone

The Prosper Laboratory Medical Director, Jason Wang, M.D., led the laboratory team to a major milestone last month. The team conducted a one day peer regulatory inspection at a pediatric hospital in Oakland, California to ensure compliance with our CAP, (College of American Pathologists) standards. It’s an opportunity to collaborate with peers and for inspectors to provide valuable feedback to ensure high quality care is given. The team was made up of Prosper Laboratory Leadership, aspiring leaders in the Prosper core lab, Sandy Cope, M.D., and two local inspectors. It was a great learning and team building experience for our CCMCP Lab team.

Staff Appreciation

The Sunshine Committee in the MOB recently hosted a fun sundae bar in celebration of our amazing staff. Team members stopped by to build their own ice cream sundaes and enjoy time together. It was a wonderful way to show appreciation while sharing laughs (and sprinkles!).

Looking ahead, the Sunshine Committee has more great events planned in the MOB. This includes our annual Friendsgiving in November and a festive Christmas party event in December. We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone!

Fall Event Volunteers Needed

Cook Children's will have a presence at many fall events starting in the next few weeks and we need lots of volunteers to make these successful!

Saturday, Oct. 18 - Fall Fest (Frisco)

Cook Children’s will have a booth at the fall festival at Frisco Fresh Market.  We need lots of volunteers to hand out information and goodies!

Oct. 24 - 26 - Boo at the Zoo

We are back at our favorite community event in Fort Worth! We will have a treat station and will be handing out candy at the Fort Worth Zoo.  This is a great event to get service hours and represent Cook Children’s. (Please note that this event does not allow you to bring family/kids with you to volunteer, unfortunately.)

This is a great family friendly event with the best trick or treat trail.  We are the kids zone sponsor and will have a booth all night.  You can bring your family while you work a shift! This event is free.

This is a fun Halloween themed festival in downtown Plano, we need lots of volunteers to make this successful!

This is a fun family event in the Windsong HOA neighborhood behind the hospital.  There will be games, fall crafts, food trucks, vendors so bring the family out.
