Prosper News Update (Sept. 29, 2025)

Good afternoon Prosper family,

It feels like we might be inching into fall! We have fun activities coming and several volunteer opportunities as we enter the holidays. The campus is collecting donations for Lovepacs in our community, if you can donate please do and we will get these to the families just in time for Thanksgiving. Your leadership team appreciates all of the work that you have put in getting your education completed and wrapping up your performance evaluations. We look forward to the month of October and our Prosper Boo Bash! See you there!

New NICU Expands Care for Newborns in One of the Nation's Fastest Growing Regions

Purpose-built to meet the urgent needs of a rapidly growing community, the NICU at Cook Children’s Medical Center - Prosper is the first to be housed within a children’s hospital in the region.

"Our new NICU is a promise to families that their children will receive expert, compassionate care without having to leave their community," said Kevin Greene, President of Cook Children's Medical Center - Prosper. “With each investment we make into our medical center and in our outpatient clinics, we are building a foundation for exceptional pediatric care close to home.” View the story here and media coverage.

Celebrating With a Ribbon Cutting & Blessing

We celebrated the official opening of our NICU with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event brought together members of the Cook Children’s team and community leaders, including Town of Prosper Mayor David Bristol, to commemorate this exciting milestone. This ceremony was a wonderful opportunity to honor everyone who made this new unit possible and to share this achievement with the community.

In addition to our ribbon-cutting ceremony, the new NICU was honored with a special blessing. Our Spiritual Care team, along with members from many teams, participated in a ceremony to bless the unit and everyone who will work and be cared for within its walls. This moment of reflection and spiritual peace was a beautiful way to set the intention for the compassionate care that will be delivered here for years to come.

DAISY Award Winner: A Story of Trust and Compassion

This month, we are thrilled to recognize Hannah Plack, RN, from our Infusion Center, with the DAISY Award. Hannah's nomination comes from a parent who shared a powerful story about the trust she built with her young patient.

After a difficult morning getting an IV started, the child became very anxious. The parent recalled, "Watching her be patient with my daughter, who was crying and not giving good feedback, was something that brought tears to my eyes."

Hannah's calm and patient approach, her ability to remember the child's preferences, and her dedication to building relationships are what make her truly exceptional. As the parent wrote, "She truly deserves this award."

Thank you, Hannah, for being an outstanding example of the compassionate care that defines our team. Your commitment to making every patient feel valued is an inspiration.

Get Ready for Halloween Festivities!

Get ready, Prosper! It’s almost time to celebrate Halloween at Cook Children's. Start planning your most creative costumes and thinking about how you'll decorate your pumpkins. We can't wait to see what you come up with! See more details in the next Prosper newsletter.

Halloween costumes can be worn on all shifts from Oct. 28 - 31 and must follow dress code. The winning categories are : individual most creative costume, individual funniest costume, best small group (up to 5 people,) and best large group (up to 12 people.)

Decorated pumpkins will be due by Oct. 22. Patients and families will vote on 1st, 2nd and 3rd place!

APP Week Luncheon

In honor of National Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Week, we hosted a special Appreciation Luncheon to recognize the outstanding contributions of our APPs. It was a wonderful opportunity for leadership and staff to come together and celebrate the essential work our Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and other APPs do every day to support our mission.

Sepsis Day

This World Sepsis Day, our teams from across the medical center shared crucial knowledge that could save a child's life. While ghosts, goblins, and ghouls are fun this time of year, sepsis is a real monster we are here to fight. Thank you to all of our teams and departments who shared this critical information! These informative stations helped our team members unmask the signs of sepsis and protect our young patients. Our goal was for everyone to be prepared, not spooked.

Fall Event Volunteers Needed

Cook Children's will have a presence at many fall events starting in the next few weeks and we need lots of volunteers to make these successful!

Saturday, Oct. 4 - Celebrate Prosper

This is a great community event with a fun kids zone, food trucks, vendors and a concert to end the night.  This event is free, bring the family out while you work a shift! We are the kids zone sponsor and will have a booth right in front of the bounce houses.

This is a great family friendly event with the best trick or treat trail.  We are the kids zone sponsor and will have a booth all night.  You can bring your family while you work a shift! This event is free.

This is a fun family event in the Windsong HOA neighborhood behind the hospital.  There will be games, fall crafts, food trucks, vendors so bring the family out.
