Secure Chat: Something to Talk About

EPIC logo

On Dec. 10, Secure Chat will be live! As Epic’s secure messaging platform, Secure Chat lives within the EMR and allows staff to message each other regarding patients.

That’s right! This gives you a secure method of directly sending non-urgent/non-emergent messages about patients and attaching PHI. As such, Secure Chat is NOT a replacement for current state urgent/emergent workflows.

With this go-live, Secure Chat will be available in Epic on your desktop and in the mobile apps (Haiku/Canto). Rover devices will be updated with Secure Chat in April 2025.

As always, clinical judgment and situational conditions should dictate the appropriate method of communication. To help you know what communication method you should use and when to use it, please review this Secure Chat etiquette guide.

Please take a moment to review this tip sheet for an overview and watch this ULearn for a guided preview of Secure Chat.

Starting on Dec. 2, Epic training will be providing hands-on demonstrations in various Cook Children’s departments and locations. Sign up for virtual sessions on Dec. 3 and Dec. 5 through ULearn here.

Also, you can stop by Camelot Court from 11 a.m. to noon on the following dates:

  • 11 a.m.-noon – Dec. 2
  • 11 a.m.-noon – Dec. 4
  • 11 a.m.-noon – Dec. 6

Be sure to look for our table at Jingle Mingle on Dec. 6 at Medical Center-Fort Worth.
