Symptom Helper Elevates MyCookChildren's Experience

SymptomHelper

By Gareth Patterson

We understand the importance of staying ahead of the curve and implementing innovative solutions to enhance patient care. That's why we’re excited to announce the launch of a groundbreaking feature on the MyCookChildren's App – The Symptom Helper.

With this new addition, which launched on Jan. 29, we create a meaningful and valuable app experience for both our physicians and patients/families helping families navigate common symptoms and provide them with reliable guidance.

“Our hope is that this tool will equip families to know when it is safe to monitor symptoms at home versus when they need to seek care more urgently,” said Kara Starnes, D.O., Medical Director at Cook Children's Urgent Care. “[Symptom Helper] has the potential to be a significant time and cost saver for families who just need a little reassurance about when to seek care. It will also help those of us who deliver healthcare to set expectations and educate patients and families about various illnesses before they arrive for a visit.”

Features and Benefits of Symptom Helper

The Symptom Helper is a powerful addition to the MyCookChildren's App, enabling families to access personalized information and recommendations for managing common symptoms. By utilizing a fact-based storytelling approach, we’ve curated a series of articles, videos, and resources that address respiratory symptoms during the cold and flu season.

Ranging from printable documents about RSV to information about accessing after-hours care, these resources have been carefully selected by the Cook Children’s Digital Experience based on user interviews and feedback from clinicians. The team researched and listened to the needs of community members and portal users and used that data to create a tool that not only empowered families but also supported our physicians in delivering exceptional care.

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, Symptom Helper will be an evolving feature. As the healthcare landscape changes, so will the app. We will continue to listen to feedback, conduct user interviews, and incorporate new insights to enhance the functionality and content. Our goal is to ensure that our digital products, like the MyCookChildren’s app, remains a valuable resource for families and a valuable tool for our dedicated physicians.
