Our Values in Action: The Cook Children's Culture On Paper

DSC_0618

This is the second in our Values in Action series of articles highlighting ways the Culture Platform is practiced in daily life at Cook Children’s Health Care System. The first article looked back at how leaders began to identify the “secret sauce” that makes Cook Children’s so special. Now, we learn about the process of defining that recipe so that employees can make sense of it, and use it as their guiding light each day.

An Update on the Institute for Mind Health

We are so excited that the Jane and John Justin Institute for Mind Health is set to open in October. We’ve compiled a few facts about the Justin Institute to help you get to know more about where we are with this project.

Initiatives underway include:
• Recruiting psychiatrists, psychologists and neurodevelopmental disabilities providers to support the Institute.
• Relocating the Neuroscience Research Center to the Justin Institute bringing research and patient care face to face.
• Training all faculty and staff in trauma-informed care to unify the patient experience.
• Removing barriers to care by simplifying and digitizing the intake process across behavioral and developmental health specialties.
• Co-locating all service lines to Dodson this October which will provide a single collaborative clinic space.
• There will be meetings held over the summer with the staff who will work in the Justin Institute so stay tuned for dates and details.

EMS Week 2023: Where Emergency Care Begins

Photo May 22 2023, 12 02 58 PMIt’s National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, a time to thank the entire EMS workforce for their service and sacrifices.

Today and every day, we are grateful for our Teddy Bear Transport team, EMTs, paramedics, emergency practitioners and community partners for always being prepared to respond when there’s a need.

Thank you for your dedicated service to the community and for providing the highest quality of care for children and their families.

To honor these incredible teams we invited Prosper Fire Rescue to join us for a cookout lunch at the Prosper campus earlier this week. (That's the crew in the photo.)

ICYMI: Workday Wednesday Newsletter

John Kott Image Cook Children’s is transitioning to Workday for our Human Resources, Finance, and Supply Chain business processes beginning in July. John Kott, Assistant Vice President of Supply Chain, predicts Workday will make it easier for clinicians to enter requisitions for the supplies they need. Another benefit? Workday provides more ability for Supply Chain to anticipate snags that could disrupt a product’s flow from the vendors to delivery at Cook Children’s warehouses.

This week’s issue also includes updated information on blackout dates for new hires, transfers and job boards, as well as details on how to sign up for Workday training.

WATCH: Keeping Kids Safe in the Water This Memorial Day Weekend

swimsuitcolors3As summer vacation kicks off and the weather heats up, North Texas families are heading to pools, lakes or the seaside to cool off and have fun. But did you know that it’s best to choose brightly-colored swimsuit colors, rather than white or light blue suits, which can blend into the body of water in which your child will be swimming?

Check out some photos and a video on the Checkup Newsroom showing how swimsuit colors can improve visibility, and you can learn more about other layers of protection parents and caregivers can use to help prevent drowning.
