Why the Change?
You might be wondering why we're transitioning to new badges. Here are a few key reasons:
- Reflecting Our Brand: It's time for our badges to reflect the new Cook Children’s branding, which we unveiled almost two years ago.
- Enhanced Security: We're upgrading to new technology with a higher level of encryption. This enhanced security makes our access points safer across the system.
- Streamlined Look: The overall look and feel will be more streamlined and easier to read for both our team members and our patients and families.
What You'll Notice About the New Badges
The new badges will bring a few changes you'll want to be aware of:
- Information Remains Consistent: The information on your badge will stay the same: your name, credentials (if you have them), department, and title.
- First Name, Last Initial: We heard your feedback from across the system regarding privacy. With the new badges, we will be moving to First Name Last Initial for staff up to and including managers. Directors and above will have their first and last name on the badge.
- Simplified Design: The badges will have a simplified look and feel, and they will display up to three credentials.
- No Hole in the Badge: The new badges do not have a hole at the top, so a sleeve will be needed to hold the badge. You will be provided a sleeve when you receive your new badge. Please note there are two holes in the top of the sleeve, allowing for two pins that should reflect the Cook Children’s promise and values. However, please refrain from placing pins in the badge or badge buddy itself.
- Standardized Badge Buddies: We've developed a strategy for standardized badge buddies to assist patients, families, and team members with role identification. These will feature a consistent design and color coding. More information on badge buddies will be shared in the coming weeks.
We are moving to standardized badge buddies across the system, which will be implemented with the new badges. These are for roles across the system that are approximately 80% patient-facing. Badge Buddies are the tags that hang down behind the badge that indicate a specific role, like Registered Nurse, Physician, or Dietitian. The goal with these new badge buddies is to help our staff and families better identify the role and expertise of our people while providing a consistent look and feel to the badge.
Additionally, our revised Badge Identification Policy – HR 165 – will be published soon. Future communication will provide more information on this policy.
We appreciate each of you and hope you will enjoy your new badges as much as we do!
