PHOTOS: How We Celebrated Black History Month Around Cook Children's

Black History Month activities were sponsored by our Employee Resource Group (ERG) for Black/African Americans and allies, and centered around opportunities to learn about and recognize the contributions of Black Americans.

The month included dress up days for employees to show their pride as members of Greek-letter organizations or as alumni or fans of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).  Originally planned for Martin Luther King Jr. in January but postponed due to weather, a Day of Service took place on Feb. 14 and 15, providing opportunities for employees to get involved, including creating encouragement cards for patients or making children's activity books.

We received many photos submitted by employees from across the System so we wanted to be sure that everyone got a chance to see them!

Introducing BOLD+

The Black/African American ERG used this month as a time to choose a new name to something that they believe is more representative of the ERG and its members. After a month of submissions and voting, the new name is BOLD+, Black Organization for Leadership and Development – Be Authentic, Be You, Be BOLD.BlackHistoryMonth1

We're so lucky to have ERGs that go above and beyond to maintain inclusion, diversity and equity at Cook Children's. We can't wait to see what's to come, not only from BOLD+ but from our three other ERGs, which are Latinos Engaging, Advancing, Developing & Supporting (L.E.A.D.S.), Pride+, and the Veterans Group.

Take a look at the images below for a recap, in case you missed it!
