VIDEO: Building a More Inclusive Workplace -- Reflections on Breaking Ice and Beyond

IDE course training-1 (1)

This month, hundreds of Cook Children's employees had the opportunity to experience a truly impactful performance: Breaking Ice. This powerful theatrical presentation explored themes of diversity, inclusion, and belonging in a way that resonated deeply with many.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with employees describing the experience as moving, impactful, and eye-opening. It was a chance to see ourselves reflected on stage and to consider how our own experiences might shape our interactions with others.

Want to learn more?

We invite you to take a moment and get a taste of the Breaking Ice experience for yourself. Click here for an article with more details and watch a video that captures the essence of the performance and shares some employee reactions.

But the conversation doesn't stop here!

Breaking Ice served as a springboard for a deeper dive into inclusion, diversity, and health equity. We're excited to offer a 90-minute online training course available on ULearn. Search for "IDE Workshop" to register and continue your journey towards building a more inclusive and equitable workplace for everyone.

At Cook Children's, we believe in fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and respected. Breaking Ice was a powerful step in that direction, and we're committed to ongoing learning and growth.

A Total Eclipse in the Heart of Texas: Here’s What You Need to Know

eclipse_map_full_print"Mama always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun.

But mama, that’s where the fun is.”

– Bruce Springsteen, “Blinded by the Light”

On April 8 at around 1:30 p.m. locally, you will be one of around 31.6 million people cast into total darkness as a solar eclipse travels across portions of the United States.

This marks the last total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous U.S. until 2044, so we understand you wanting to be part of such a historic occasion.

At the same time, we want to make sure everyone is safe and we take care of our patients.

During the eclipse, we will have viewing locations on the North and South lawn and Dillard Garden at Cook Children’s Medical Center – Fort Worth. For Prosper and other Cook Children’s locations, please find a safe viewing location on campus.

Along with wearing proper eyewear to protect yourself, what does it mean to be safe?

  • Most importantly, stay out of the streets or common walkways.
  • Do not block any fire lanes or entrances.
  • Make sure your patients are not left alone and do not let them look directly into the sun.

Microsoft Teams Update

New Teams Image

On Wednesday, March 27, the new upgrade to Microsoft Teams will be available across our health care system. The new version will set us up for the future of Teams as Microsoft continues to develop this product.

Teams will continue to launch with a default to the current (“Classic”) version. You will have the option to toggle between the Classic version, and the “New Teams” version while you get used to the changes. Starting in early April, people using physical desktops will switch to only having New Teams available. Those using virtual desktops (people who use shared computer terminals that multiple people sign into) will make the full switch starting in early May,

For a pre-read of what’s changing in the new version, please click here. You’ll notice that initially there are not major differences anticipated.

Mental Health Education for Patient Families

cc_fb_cover_supportMany children and teens experience moments that cause them to feel anxious, depressed or even suicidal. It can be hard to know when to ask for help or where to find support. Teams at Cook Children's worked together to compile a comprehensive page of behavior and emotion resources to assist patient families and our community with mental and behavioral health issues, including knowing when to ask for help, find support or who to talk to.

Please view these resources on the Cook Children's website. Please feel free to recommend the resources to patient families and spread the word in your networks.
