Thank you, Susie Schulwitz: We Say Goodbye to Employee No. 9

This week, we say farewell to one of the longest-serving members of our Cook Children’s family. Susie Schulwitz, who first joined us in September 1967 as employee No. 9, will complete her time here on Sept. 11.

Over the years, Susie touched nearly every corner of our organization. She served in nursing leadership and patient education roles, always with a focus on supporting patients, families, and staff. She was especially passionate about health literacy, working to ensure that families received clear, compassionate education materials to help them feel confident in caring for their children.

Susie also brought a unique spark to Cook Children’s through her love of magic. For decades, she delighted patients and families as the founder of the Young Magician’s Club, showing that healing can happen not only through medicine, but also through moments of joy, laughter, and wonder.

Susie’s contributions will be remembered for the lasting impact they had on our patients, families, and colleagues. We are grateful for the many years she dedicated to Cook Children’s and wish her the very best in the next chapter of her journey. If you would like to send a card to Susie, please feel free to drop one off at the Family Health Library or Schwarz Health Sciences Library.

Parking Garage Flow Alert: L5 and L6 Directional Change

Please be aware of a recent change in a parking garage. The directional flow on levels L5 and L6 in the garage at Seventh and Pennsylvania has been updated. The middle aisles on these levels now travel in a different direction.

We understand this is a change from the usual route, so please pay extra attention to the arrows and new signage to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. Your cooperation will help prevent confusion and potential issues.

Bone Marrow Donation: Your Cells, Their Cure

Did you know that 75% of people needing a blood stem cell transplant don't have a fully matched donor in their family? Find out if you can save a life as an unrelated donor. Cook Children's is hosting a National Marrow Donor Program Swab Drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  on Sept. 15 and 16 in Camelot Court at Cook Children's Medical Center - Fort Worth.

Take Action for National Preparedness Month

September is Preparedness Month. Make a plan with your household members. It could protect your life and the lives of those around you. When disaster strikes, city services may be cut off and local disaster relief and government responders may not be able to reach you. You need to have a plan and supplies in place in case you need to make it on your own, at least for a limited time, no matter where you are.

Have a plan in case you are at work when disaster strikes. This can include having alternative child/adult care, transportation, and sleep arrangements, as well as a communication plan with your loved ones. Click on this link to fill in some information that will develop a pocket-sized emergency plan. It only takes a few minutes. 

Be informed: During a disaster, it can be easy to become distracted by all the chaos going on around you. It is highly recommended that you check with your local jurisdiction for registration information to their Emergency Notification System so that you are aware of any emergencies or disasters that may arise in your area.

Reminder: Email Mailbox Migration

Your email mailbox will be moving from your old email service to Microsoft 365 this month. Please be on the lookout for an email about this change. We urge you to read it carefully. This email is not spam or phishing. 

The migration will come in weekly waves to different user groups across Cook Children’s through Sept. 30. You will receive a personal email from Internal Communications when it is approaching the date and time for your mailbox’s migration. Until you receive that email, there is no action on your part. Outlook distribution email groups

Do you own any Outlook distribution email groups? If so, you will not be able to make updates to these groups until all migrations are complete. Please submit a Service Desk ticket using the new ServiceNow Employee Center to have any updates made.
 

New Way to Ask Questions About Open Requisitions

There's a new way to get your questions about open requisitions answered more quickly.

The Talent Acquisition team is now using Workday Help and will no longer use the AskTalentAcquisition@cookchildrens.org email account.

Here's how it works: When you submit a ticket with a question about a requisition, it goes directly to the recruiter assigned to that specific role. This ensures you get a faster, more accurate response.

Kendra Scott Pop Up Trunk Show 

Join us for a Kendra Gives Back event in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. We will have a Kendra Scott retail event in the Camelot Light Court (seating area outside of Camelot Court) from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12.

When you make a purchase, 20% of sales will benefit Cook Children’s Health Foundation. Visit the pop up in person on Friday or shop online with the code GIVEBACK-JWMQS between Sept. 12-14. 

Our Pet-scription for Happiness

When we leave our Cook Children's campus, our pets may be the ones who greet us when we get home. Each week, we're showcasing all the pets who make us better humans, with videos featuring photos of pets that have been submitted by you, Cook Children's employees. We will be posting these videos periodically, so if you do not see your pet right away, they will be showcased in a later video. 

Help us show some love to our furry friends at home.
