Cook Children’s News
This communication overrides recent information regarding employees returning to work.
Throughout the pandemic, we have followed the latest CDC guidance closely. With the recent surge in omicron cases in our area and throughout our system, we are updating our return to work policy for employees infected with COVID-19. We also provide updated information for employees who have been exposed to the virus.
We know many of you have questions on what to do if you are exposed to the virus.
Because of the increase in cases during the holidays, we want to provide you with a quick FAQ to go over a few important details:

Mary Suzanne Whitworth, M.D., Medical director of Infectious Diseases, addressed more than a dozen reporters in a news conference via Zoom on Dec. 29. Dr. Whitworth covered a number of topics over the course of 16 minutes. Dr. Whitworth speaks on what we are seeing currently at Cook Children's, talks about kids heading back to school and much more.
Please remember that visitor exception requests for inpatients at the Medical Center or Dodson clinic appointments need to be sent prior to the arrival of the patient and/or visitor.
(Offsite clinics are to continue to handle their own visitation exceptions internally within the clinic.)
Thank you to everyone who submitted pictures of celebrating the holidays with colleagues, families and friends.
From ugly sweater contests to visiting the Gift of Lights Texas, many of you found festive ways to have fun this season.
"Bereavement is a universal and integral part of our experience of love." - C.S. Lewis
This time of year is known for traditions and togetherness with colleagues, family and friends. It is also when feelings of grief can be heightened or seem overwhelming.
We know this has been another long, challenging year and we appreciate each and every one of you.
Jessie Butler, PN, PICU, recently received an adorable letter from her granddaughter, Annabelle.
We hope Annabelle's letter is a small reminder and encouragement to continue living up to Our Promise to patients, families, and each other every day.
