Cook Children's Changes Return To Work Policy For Those Infected  With COVID-19

This communication overrides recent information regarding employees returning to work.

Throughout the pandemic, we have followed the latest CDC guidance closely. With the recent surge in omicron cases in our area and throughout our system, we are updating our return to work policy for employees infected with COVID-19. We also provide updated information for employees who have been exposed to the virus.

COVID-19 Cases Among Kids Quadruple in a Week with Omicron

Mary Suzanne Whitworth, M.D., Medical director of Infectious Diseases, addressed more than a dozen reporters in a news conference via Zoom on Dec. 29. Dr. Whitworth covered a number of topics over the course of 16 minutes. Dr. Whitworth speaks on what we are seeing currently at Cook Children's, talks about kids heading back to school and much more.

Submit all Visitor Exception Requests PRIOR to arrival 

Please remember that visitor exception requests for inpatients at the Medical Center or Dodson clinic appointments need to be sent prior to the arrival of the patient and/or visitor. 

The instructions for submitting visitor exception requests are as follows:

  • Please email visitorexceptions@cookchildrens.org
  • Subject Line: SECURE - APPROVED or NEEDS APPROVAL (select one), Date of visit, Location
  • Body:
    • Patient Name
    • Room Number/Clinic
    • Names of people being granted exception 
    • Time of arrival 
    • Reason for exception 

(Offsite clinics are to continue to handle their own visitation exceptions internally within the clinic.)

We know this has been another long, challenging year and we appreciate each and every one of you. 

Jessie Butler, PN, PICU, recently received an adorable letter from her granddaughter, Annabelle. 

We hope Annabelle's letter is a small reminder and encouragement to continue living up to Our Promise to patients, families, and each other every day.
