Please Don't Come to Cook Children's Facilities to View Fireworks
This Fourth of July holiday, please do not attempt to view fireworks from any Cook Children’s facility or parking garage. It's important that ample, safe, and close parking is available for our patient families and for the employees and medical transport teams who are working on site.

Our series on the Cook Children's values continues. Today we are spotlighting how our amazing nurses are able to live our values every day in their special role by highlighting the value of Safety.
Before every shift, Adrea Crump, BSN, RN, prays and asks God to guide her hands and mind as she works with patients and families. Adrea says every day brings different challenges, but her goal is always to get to know the patients and families.
One of those patients was a child who was scared of being in the hospital. Adrea worked on making a connection with the mom first and then the child by checking the teddy bear’s blood pressure.
“As the night went on, this child let me care for them without being fearful and progressed so much he was able to go home the next day,” Adrea said. “A big part of pediatric nursing is connecting with the family.”
Adrea’s love for kids matched with a team who works well together makes an ideal work environment.
“I love the people I work with at Cook Children’s. We all help each other on the night shift and feed off each other’s vibes,” Adrea said.

STAR Kids Service Coordination team at Cook Children’s Health Plan recently held a pizza party celebration to honor their team audit average score reaching 96% compliance for Individualized Service Plans. Also in attendance, our Cook Children’s facility dogs!
The STAR Kids program has many contractual requirements, and the Individualized Service Plan is an area that Texas Health and Human Services Commission monitors closely. The Individualized Service Plan is a comprehensive document that captures all the services our members are using and needing. The team also enjoyed an in-person fair to provide staff with refresher topics they will need when they resume in-person visits with Cook Children's Health Plan members in July.
We are so proud of our employees who have been recognized for their excellence. Thank you for your outstanding contributions to Cook Children's and for being willing to always go the extra mile to help our patient families and colleagues. You are an inspiration to us all.

Don't Forget: Take Action by Friday, June 30 on Occupational Health Requirement for Tuberculosis (TB)
Here's your last reminder before the June 30 deadline:
As we prepare to move to the Workday human resources platform and the temporary absence of a performance evaluation process to monitor Occupational Health annual requirements, we have put in place a system to help ensure that employees are being compliant with these requirements.
We have added a Tuberculosis (TB) Questionnaire to everyone’s annual ULearn required courses. Everyone must submit a new form via ULearn during June 2023 and again in June 2024. If you answer YES to any of the questions regarding symptoms or risks of tuberculosis, you will need to email Occhealth@cookchildrens.org for an evaluation.
All patient-facing staff are required to complete respiratory mask fit testing every 12 months. Please schedule this through the Occupational Health page on CookNet in a timely manner. (Navigate to the Quick Links on the right side of the page and find the document “Respiratory Protection & Mask Fitting.” You must be on the network to view it).
Mask fittings will now take place at Occupational Health, 901 7th St. Suite 4200, Fort Worth. If your department is outside of Cook Children’s Medical Center-Fort Worth, including employees at Cook Children’s Medical Center-Prosper, a mobile mask-fitting team will continue to travel to your location for completion each year.
Employee completion of these requirements will be monitored through ULearn and supervisors will be notified if their staff are not compliant. Human Resources and Occupational Health will obtain a list of non-compliant staff at the end of June and those individuals will be contacted.
